Curative's
Birth-to-Three Program provides pediatric outpatient therapy services and
early childhood education to children ages birth to 3 years in Milwaukee County who have a developmental delay.
The program serves children who have a physical, cognitive, communication and/or sensory disability.
Curative is the largest provider of Birth to Three services in Milwaukee
County.
The
Curative Birth-To-Three therapy team may include a:
- Family
Service Coordinator
- Physical
Therapist
- Occupational
Therapist
- Speech
Language Pathologist
- Early
Childhood Education Teacher
- Social Worker
Families Are Important Team Members
Curative staff members, in cooperation with family members, establish short-term goals for every child upon admission to the program. Goals are reviewed every three months to see if they are being accomplished. If so, new goals are set. This process continues until discharge from the program.
Family caregivers play an important role in helping children accomplish goals. Curative staff may only be able to meet with a child once or twice a week. So that children are able to work consistently on meeting goals, staff teach parents how to do therapeutic exercises and educational lessons in the home. Guidance may also be offered to day care workers and others involved in caring for a child.
The
Curative Birth to Three program provides services to Milwaukee County families at Curative's location at 1000 N. 92nd Street, Milwaukee, as well as in natural environments. Natural environments are locations where
children typically spend their day, including the home, a day care center,
a neighborhood library, park or other public place, or locations selected
by the family and therapists. Children may receive services individually or in groups so they can discover play and socialization with others.
The Goal of the Birth-To-Three Services Program
The ultimate goal of the program is transition to public or private schools systems, Head Start programs or other services that are capable of meeting special needs once a child reaches three years of age. In some instances, children no longer need special support following discharge from Curative's Birth-to-Three program.
