SHOREWOOD, WIS, FEBRUARY 27, 2018 – For Curative Care — a local non-profit organization that provides high-quality services to children, adults and senior citizens with disabilities or limiting conditions — a little money can go a long way. Northwoods Web Solutions, a web design and digital marketing firm in Shorewood, Wisconsin, was pleased to present Curative Care with a $1,000 check during the company’s first annual Chili Invitational, held February 22, 2018. Northwoods President Patrick Bieser presented Curative Care President and CEO, Candace Hennessy, PhD, RN with the donation. Cook-off attendees kicked in an additional $350 for Curative Care.
“We have enjoyed a great partnership with Northwoods for several years,” Dr. Hennessy said. “It was exciting to collaborate with their team on this event. The chili fundraiser was a great way to give back to our program, which takes care of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
The $1,000 donation will help fund the Club Curative program, an Adult Day Services program that provides a safe and supportive environment for young adults aged 18-29. In that program, individuals with developmental disabilities learn independent living skills, such as doing the laundry, preparing meals and grocery shopping. The program also reaches beyond the basics and enhances clients’ lives. For example, $225 pays for one bus trip for a group of clients with cognitive and physical disabilities to attend a community event or activity; $300 pays for six months of art and painting supplies for adults with developmental disabilities; $500 buys eight group music therapy sessions.
The Chili Invitational is the first of a series of events celebrating Northwoods’ 20th anniversary. The company aims to give back to the community throughout this anniversary year.
“This year is Northwoods’ 20th anniversary, and we’re doing what we can to give back to our partners, clients and community,” said Bieser. “We are proud of our Milwaukee roots and want to celebrate this milestone with them.”
Northwoods and Curative Care employees created 21 chili recipes for the occasion. Food professionals from Shorewood’s The Ruckus and MOD restaurants, sampled the fare and picked the winners. Nehring’s Sendik’s and BayDQ generously contributed supplies and food.
“I didn’t expect the wide varieties of flavors and recipes,” said Carl Zepecki, MOD’s manager. “This was really something special.” MOD regularly supports local businesses as a part of their “spreading Modness” philosophy, which involves giving back to local communities where they live and work.
Northwoods Senior Software Engineer, Nate Grier, was selected as MOD’s big winner, and tied for The Ruckus’ prize along with Patrick Bieser and Eva Zoltan, wife of Northwoods employee, Ondrej Zoltan. Grier’s winning recipe was a BBQ Jackfruit Chili.
