What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling involves using a thin, sterile filiform needle to penetrate muscle trigger points—those taut, tender bands of tissue often called "knots." By targeting these specific areas, the treatment creates a positive change in muscle quality and function.

Dry Needling vs. Acupuncture

While they may look similar, dry needling is not acupuncture.

· Dry Needling: Focuses strictly on muscles and referred pain to improve physical function.

· Acupuncture: Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, it aims to restore energy flow (Qi) and balance by stimulating points along the body's meridians.

The Benefits of Treatment

Dry needling is often described by patients as a "game changer," especially for chronic pain management.

Key benefits include:

· Significant pain reduction

· Improved range of motion

· Decreased muscle stiffness

· Enhanced overall quality of life

Common Conditions Treated

Dry needling is a versatile tool that works well for a variety of diagnoses, including:

· Myofascial and muscle pain

· Neck and back pain

· Migraines and tension-type headaches

· Rotator cuff dysfunction and frozen shoulder

· Tendon injuries

· Plantar fasciitis

· Arthritic conditions and joint restrictions

· Whiplash

· Repetitive motion disorders

What to Expect During Your Session

The actual needle insertion is brief, usually lasting less than 30 seconds per muscle area.

· During: You may feel some minor muscle discomfort during the technique.

· After: Soft tissue massage may be performed immediately after the needle is removed.

· Recovery: You might experience muscle soreness for 24–48 hours. This is usually managed by staying hydrated, using ice or heat, and performing active movement or gentle stretches of the involved muscle. Most patients notice significant symptom improvement shortly after this recovery window.
